What is debate? Is debate the same as discussion or arguments?
Debate is a thinking and communicating process which involves the gathering, analysing and organizing of ideas to express one’s personal opinion on a particular topic. Debaters are required to have a broad understanding of social problems, critical thinking skills and an objective perspective of the topic from two opposing viewpoints.
Across the world, debating has become an increasingly popular way of building skills in these areas and has been introduced into many academic programmes. However, in Vietnam, this concept is still quite novel.
With the aims of equipping secondary and high school students in Vietnam and transforming debate into a quintessential skill for life-long learning and working, WESTMINSTER ACADEMY VIETNAM introduces the DEBATE COURSE AT WESTMINSTER. The course provides students with the most accurate definition of debate and professional training for debate in English, critical thinking as well as raising their social awareness.
Critical thinking is crucial in the long term development of each individual. Moreover, debate is the key to resolving conflicts without resulting in quarrels, hurtful attacks or impasses.
Additionally, DEBATE COURSE AT WESTMINSTER is designed in English and taught by international teachers with educational qualifications and extensive experience in teaching. Besides improving students’ communication skills, students will be exposed to a myriad of international debate contests, including Worlds Schools Debating Championships (WSDC) and The World Scholar Cup (WSC).
